adidas to release D Rose 5 Boost Superstar Edition

Thursday, 02.05.15

Featuring all the characteristics that make the D Rose 5 Boost one of basketball’s premier signature shoes, the “Superstar” combines the past and present by honoring one of adidas’ most recognizable sneakers. The adidas Superstar was first released in 1969 and quickly transitioned from the courts to the streets.

The D Rose 5 Boost “Superstar” edition is highlighted by the iconic rubber shell-toe, which was featured on the original Superstar in 1969 for added durability. The upper features a luxurious snakeskin texture throughout, while the Fit Cage and laces compliment in a cream color. The upper sits atop a full-length Boost midsole for maximum energy return and comfort for one of the NBA’s most explosive players.

adidas and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar unveil Black History Month Collection

Friday, 01.16.15

adidas and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar today unveiled a limited edition Black History Month Collection inspired by the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and one of the game’s most prominent philanthropists and ambassadors. Each basketball shoe model and specialty packaging features sepia tones, inspirational quotes and details that provide a vivid journey through the four most important eras of his legendary and record-breaking career.

“I was very fortunate to have African-American role models and pioneers I could identify with and learn from as I forged my career in basketball and my personal journey in life,” said Abdul-Jabbar. “Every success I’ve had is due to countless hours of hard work physically and mentally, and I’m proud to tell that story and inspire the next generation of role models as we celebrate the accomplishments of African-American leaders next month.”

The D Rose 5 Boost upper and sockliner feature the words “The Hook Shot is Worth a Thousand Words” to represent the signature shot that defined Abdul-Jabbar’s career. Drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks, Kareem’s immediate impact and signature sky hook helped the Bucks win an NBA championship in 1971 and saw him earn the first three NBA Most Valuable Player awards of his career.

The red and green sockliner represents Milwaukee Bucks team colors, while the pattern pays homage to the famous radio tower that broadcasted Bucks games over the airwaves in that era.

adidas athletes will debut the exclusive collection during the Martin Luther King Jr. Day games and wear them in select games throughout February to celebrate Black History Month and honor African-American role models like Kareem.

Fans can get this limited edition shoe starting January 30, 2015 at adidas.com. A portion of the proceeds from the Black History Month Collection will be donated to Kareem’s Sky Hook Foundation, which improves the lives of underprivileged youth. For more information on the Sky Hook Foundation or to make donations, visit http://www.skyhookfoundation.org/.
